Apple Unlocks iPhone in Italy, no solution in sight in the U.S.

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Apple has finally taken the natural step of unlocking the iPhone, though it’s happened in Italy and not in the U.S. Information Week reports that Apple finally agreed to this deal with TIM (Italy’s telecom corp) as this business model suits that country better. No such move is anticipated in the U.S., though we could all use a price cut at this point. In my opinion, Apple should unlock iPhone 1.0 when iPhone 2.0 is released. That’s the least Apple can do to encourage the adoption of the iPhone. But nothing is for certain with Apple.

Nokia In Denial Over iPhone

InformationWeek had a great post on how Nokia doesn’t respect Apple and it’s position in the U.S. market. Nokia has lost its market share in the U.S. market. Worse, their so called “iPhone Killers” keep getting killed by the iPhone. First it was N95. Now there is a touch screen Nokia phone that is supposed to once and for all rid the earth from iPhone. Nokia is either in denial or believes dissing iPhone can help them regain market share. One thing is for sure though. Nokia has realized that if you can’t keep up in the game of innovation, just imitate mindlessly. I mean Nokia’s iPhone clone is as innovative as the real iPhone, so why shouldn’t people buy it? Wake up people!

iPhone Price Drop Explained

As you may have heard by now, many wireless phone service providers in Europe (e.g. O2) are dropping prices on iPhones. The speculation is that they are doing so due to the imminent release of iPhone 2.0. Apple has not confirmed or denied a specific date for iPhone 2.0, but it does make sense when you try to motivate people to buy an iPhone by giving them significant discounts.

But don’t get sucker punched by this tactic. The fact of the matter is iPhone 2.0 is going to be much better than iPhone 1.0, and the price is not going to be that much different considering the contract that you will be taking on. So if you afford iPhone 1.0, you probably afford the second generation iPhone. If I had to bet, I would think July or August will be the release date for iPhone. So if you haven’t bought an iPhone by now, don’t throw your money at one just now.

Will Windows Mobile 7 Change your Mind?

Gizmodo had a nice article about Windows Mobile 7 which made me think about this whole Mobile OS issue. With Microsoft releasing Windows Mobile 7, I wonder who will change their mind to go buy a windows based device just because of the OS rather than an iPhone.

Do you really buy phones because of the brand of OS or actually based on the features that the phone offers? Windows Mobile phones are not that bad but there is no question Apple is in a class of its own. So just out of curiosity, who many of you will get a windows mobile 7 device because of its OS?

Denial Of Service (DoS) attack on iPhone?

Vnunet is claiming that security gurus are claiming that hackers have come up with the code that brings down iPhone’s mobile Safari browser and even the device itself completely once the holder opens an HTML page that has the crack code. I also heard a few weeks back that in a hacking competition, between Linux, Mac OS, and Vista, Mac OS was chosen more often as it was found easier to crack. Interesting turn around for Apple. Better pay more attention to security now that the popularity is growing.
