Should you wait a week for the iPhone?

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

With the launch of new iPhone, thousands of people rushed to store to pick up their new iPhone 3Gs. Now a few fellow bloggers have told people that they should not go to stores and pick up the new iPhone today, tomorrow, or in the next few days (see one example here).

Here is what I know. The lines for the iPhone will be long in some areas. If you have only one AT&T store in your country, state or city, you can expect a long wait if you are not early enough to get in line. But should that be the reason for you to wait a week or a month before getting the iPhone? I say no. Here is why. As a gadget freak, you get satisfaction from getting your hands on the latest technology and the sooner you get it, the sooner you can start playing with it. There is always much too learn about new devices, and the sooner you have it, the better.

What if you are a casual user? If you have your heard set on getting the new iPhone, it’s better to get it today (Friday), and get it out of the way. But if you want to wait, don’t do it because you don’t want to wait in lines (waiting in lines actually is a good networking opportunity). The problem with new devices is that you don’t know what you get when they come out. There could be software bugs and glitches that Apple doesn’t know about and you as an early adopter would expose yourself to these bugs. Having said that, these bugs won’t be fixed in the next couple of weeks. So waiting a week wouldn’t really make sense. Waiting 3 months would.

Depending on your needs and your appetite for new gadgets, you may decide to wait a few months for the iPhone or get it today. But don’t wait for the wrong reasons.

iPhone 3G Rush Begins

Have you gotten your iPhone yet? There is a good chance you haven’t if you are reading this, unless you are doing it on your iPhone. Gadget lovers all went to the stores today to get their hands on the new iPhone. As expected, iPhone lovers had to wait in line for some time to get their hands on the new iPhone.

The above picture is courtesy of our friends in England. It certainly doesn’t look like a long line. Now these guys got their hand on the iPhone 6 hours before we do in the states, but the reaction to Apple products is always 10 times better in the U.S. than in Europe. So yes. The lines are quite long in some areas.
