iPhone App Developers Focus On Games

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

If you have been paying attention to the latest releases at the Apple iTunes App store, 2 out of every 3 new apps seem to be either new games for the iPhone or game upgrades for iPhone 2.0. It just goes on to show that iPhone developers see a bigger market in games than productivity and entertainment app categories. Having said that, 60% of top selling iPhone apps are not games (with Koi pond at the top). I do personally feel that while games are great, the killer app will be somewhere in the productivity category rather than entertainment. I guess it’s easier to execute game ideas than to come up with unique solid productivity apps.

What Are You Hiding On Your iPhone?

It was the matter of time. People who believe in 100% foolproof systems are just dreaming, and iPhone simply not a 100% foolproof device.  A new security flaw has been discovered that allows hackers to get access to your contacts and other personal information on your iPhone. Now that’s a scary thought as a lot of people keep every piece of information they own on their iPhones. Apple will be fixing the issue sooner than later, but still it just goes on to show that you got to stay conservative with your data.

American Heritage Dictionary For iPhone 3G

If you had the original iPhone, you have probalby seen the American Heritage Dictionary for the iPhone. A lot of people complained about the background image in the original App, but the new upgrade allows you to change the background as well as playing with sizes. Now it’s funny that this Dictionary app is actually mostly used by the native Americans than lets say immigrants or foreigners.

Apple Paying Icons To Stand In Lines?

That certainly would be one way to increase interest in an already hot gadget. But Apple seems to be paying a few actors around the world to increase awareness about the iPhone by standing in line to get it. Now I do find this to be a little deceptive to say the least, but I doubt this practice is happening in the U.S. as well. Here is why: If you want to pay Paris Hilton to stay in line for the iPhone, you probably have to part ways with millions whereas I assume a Polish actor would be satisfied maybe with much less. And I doubt anybody really needed extra attention to the iPhone as it was hyped to death in the U.S. So the practice might work out in Asian countries or Europe but I still find it a little bit deceptive. I guess it’s fair game at this point.

My Favorite iPhone Game Of All

I have been asked this question a bunch of times now. “What you got on your iPhone” and “What’s your favorite iPhone game.” The first time, I tried to take a higher road and show that I am kind of above playing games. But I got to admit, iPhone games can be very addictive. Whether you are into strategy games or just arcade ones, there are just so many options to choose from. So I decided to give my favorite in each category.

  • Strategy: Texas Hold’em. Maybe you play poker with no strategy, but to me, playing Texas Hold’em is all about strategy, and this is by far my favorite game on the iPhone. It’s affordable too, so there is no reason you shouldn’t have it if you are a poker fanatic like myself. Besides, you do look smarter with Poker on your iPhone. Honorable mention goes to Caissa Chess for iPhone 3G (actually if you like chess and have a PDA, try Fritz Chess Mobile as it’s the best program in the whole world). Try Backgammon too as it is my 2nd favorite game on Vista Ultimate (I do have Macs but made a mistake of buying a PC once).
  • Fast Games: Fast games are the ones that basically make your head spin, like this Crash game for the iPhone. I can tell you this game works the best when you are waiting for a job interview (don’t ask me why). I got to give an honorable mention to “Need for Speed” for iPhone.
  • Sports Games: Into Sumo Wrestling? It’s a sport really. I like the Sumo app as it’s very simple to use and who wouldn’t want to have two superfat going at it on your iPhone. I still prefer MLB at Bat but it’s not a game.
  • Mind Numbing Games: you know games that you want to shoot yourself after playing? Can’t leave them out, can we?

So what are your favorite iPhone Games?
