Are you Ready for Strategic Assault?

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

I don’t know about you but I am an absolute sucker for strategy games. When I was a bit younger, I used to play Commandos a lot. Well. Strategic Assault is awesome for any strategy gamer. Basically, you build your forces, capture buildings, and try to capture enemy territory to achieve victory with your small army on the iPhone. The game does remind me of this classic, but for different reasons.

The menu can be better and the game can be improved in some areas but Strategic Assault is one addictive game. Good luck.

Smule Takes Over At iTunes

So much for games dominating the iPhone world. Smule has just taken over the top spot at iTunes store. Ocarina has flute like attributes allowing to make music by blowing to your microphone or change the tone by pressing fingers on your iPhone’s face.

Now I got to admit. I am no music artist, and the best music I have made is incoherent at best. But you can share your music with other Ocarina players. Ocarina for iPhone is a social app, and that’s the beauty of it.

Ocarina

Ocarina on iPhone looks much better than the real thing (see above), so there is no reasn now to make tunes with the real ones if you have the iPhone.

There is a new champ in iPhone Apps town!

Games have dominated the premium iPhone apps category, and the newest champ is no different. But this time, it is a hunting game (iHunt) that is on the top. Now iHunt is a fun game and very addictive, but I just wonder if the programmers got the idea for this app from former VP candidate, Sarah Palin. She was a huge hunting game, and maybe these guys decided to use the free publicity to push this application? Nevertheless, games continue to dominate the iPhone apps category.

Oxford Dictionary Comes To iPhone

Finally, an application that is worth the money. I know a lot of folks don’t know what a dictionary is. It’s in general a book that has a lot of words in it (OK. it’s a bad joke but you get the point). Oxford English Dictionary is very useful for immigrants and foreigners in the U.S. If you see a word that you have no idea about its meaning.

Oxford iPhone dictionary has definition for 240,000 words, and 20,000 pronunciations. I personally like the auto-complete feature as it helps finding words faster.

Now, I admit that not many people need this kind of a dictionary on their iPhones, but a lot of works who depend on dictionary to do their jobs everyday can take advantage of the Oxford iPhone dictionary. A powerful dictionary that could be overkill for most of us, but it will have its use for folks who use dictionaries on a daily basis.

Get a piece of history With U.S Constitution App

Staying with the theme of the week, which is election, the U.S., and anything in between, there is an interesting application in the app store that has everything you need to pass a history exam. The Manual for the United States of America covers declaration of independence, U.S. Constitution, Federalist papers, Patriot act, and the list of U.S. presidents among others.

Now the application is not for everyone. I know a lot of folks get turned off by all history talks, but that doesn’t mean some of us who do respect history won’t put it on our iPhone. So, it’s a niche iPhone app. But a very important ones for folks who are into history.
