The BlackBerry Storm Dilemma

A friend of mine took the bait and went for BlackBerry Storm than the iPhone. He then called me up to ask for some advice. I told him, he either needs to switch to the iPhone or get a manual on the Storm. Isn’t this a no brainer?

Want to learn iPhone Application Programming?

Who doesn’t? But sometimes reading a book can take longer than you have time, and a lot of folks prefer taking webinars instead of reading books these days. Accelerated Internet Strategies has announced new online courses for anyone who wants to master the art of iPhone programming. Here are the five tracks available:

  • Intro to Object Oriented Programming and Logic
  • Objective-C 2.0 for iPhone Developers
  • Cocoa & Xcode for iPhone Developers
  • iPhone SDK Programming – Getting it done!
  • iPhone SDK Programming – Advanced

These webinars will cost you $97 each, but that is cheap in compare to the price of admission to some of these conferences. I personally prefer reading a book on this subject (e.g. iPhone in Action), but if you have the money and you want to get a head start, you may want to try this.

iPhone @ Walmart But Not Online

Folks got too excited about the whole Walmart-iPhone issue a while back. After all, there were rumors going around that Walmart could use its bargaining team to strike a cool deal for the consumers. Turns out, Walmart could only drop the price by $2, and no $99 iPhone will be coming to your Walmart anytime soon. But here is the bad news! You can’t even buy the iPhone online at Walmart.com.

It turns out the whole Walmart issue was a non-issue afterall.

Exploring the iPhone SDK with iPhone in Action

iPhone in Action: Introduction to Web and SDK Development

I have been on a mission to find the right iPhone programming book for quite some time now. I have covered a few of these books in the past. iPhone in Action published by Manning Publishing is another great book if you are trying to learn how to get started with iPhone programming. I had a chance to catch a few sample chapters of this book (read chapter 1, 2 here). I’ve got to say, the book looks good at this point. I am personally excited about Chapter 19, but I haven’t had a chance to get the print version yet. Amazon will be releasing the book soon, and I will have more on the other chapters. But the three chapters that I have read so far are very solid. If you are just getting started with iPhone programming, I do encourage you to read the two above chapters before Christmas and then get the book when it comes out.
