Apple iPhone Developers Rejoice

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

iPhone atlas is reporting that Apple has just released a new version of its SDK for iPhone and iPod touch. The new SDK seems to be targeted towards application developers who will be writing programs for the iPhone OS 2.1.1. There are no mentions of major improvements with this release.

Finally, A Cookbook for iPhone SDK

The iPhone Developer's Cookbook: Building Applications with the iPhone SDK (Developer's Library)

I don’t know about you, but I understand programming languages better with cookbooks than How to guides or Head first kind of books. I just noticed that we are getting close to the release of a highly anticipated cookbook for the iPhone SDK. Amazon has the iPhone Developer’s Cookbook for $40 and it is set to be released in late September. Now keep in mind that native programming for iPhone is very close to writting OO C code, which a lot of people still do, but it’s not a walk in the park.

Missing the I am Rich Application?

Are you? We had a story about the I am rich application a while back but it seems the app has been whacked by Apple now. I wonder if the suckers who paid $1000 for this ruby graphic got compensated for their troubles. But I am glad Apple has finally realized the risk and removed the app.

Are You A “Sucka?”

Now that’s not a question you hear everyday, and I truly didn’t want to go there. But after seeing some nice dude selling a useless iPhone app for $999, then I just had to say it. The Am I rich application which is going for $999 on iTunes store is to remind the rich people that they are rich. It absolutely does nothing else. Do I expect people to fall for this latest lame tactic? Absolutely. If people can pay $1000 to get a piece of paper with the word “PS3″ on it (that actually happened on eBay), then they can pay for this junk too. There are only four reasons why anyone would fall for this:

  • You are filthy rich, but you have not worked a minute for your wealth. So you can afford to throw around money like it’s nothing.
  • You are a poor guy but trying to pretend hard that you are rich. Having a useless $999 app can help you do that.
  • You are an idiot who don’t know the difference between the moon and an Apple.
  • You are a sucker, thinking that buying this application is a long-term investment that will make you rich.

So don’t be a sucker. Ignore the “are you an idiot” app.

Latest Released iPhone Apps

Two more iPhone Apps were released during the weekend, though both were updated versions of previous software and not exactly new applications:

  • Fotomatic: Fotmatic has been updated for the iPhone 2.0 platform. This little cool app will make slideshows out of your FaceBook or other social media images. In the new version, the functionality and user interface has been improved. You can use Flickr, FaceBook, or Picasa images on your iPhone with this app. The downside? $4.99 fee! I am not sure I can justify the price even though it’s really cheap.
  • Little Pine Tree: Really an app for kids as it reads story to your children. I am not sure I want my iPhone to read stories to my kids as I think the bond would be stronger if you suck it up and do it yourself. It’s $0.99 so if you must have it, it’s not that expensive.
