BlackBerry Storm Better than iPhone?

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

rim, blackberry, storm, smartphone

Believe it or not, we have yet another story about a device that wants to beat iPhone in its own game. BlackBerry storm is the latest device to have the title of iPhone killer. Now, let’s not pretend that iPhone has won the business sector over yet, but it is making inroads. Having said that, I was pretty impressed with BlackBerry storm. Admittedly, I don’t own the device yet (waiting to get it for the Christmas), and I probably won’t have a need for it anyway, but the specs that I have been looked at seem to indicate that Storm is a great little business tool.

The reviews have been rave too. Blackverry’s are notoriously loved by business folks, but the new generation of business gurus are moving on to the iPhone because it has some very unique features and it does make you look smarter. Is Storm better than the iPhone? I am not sure. It’s different, and it has some nice features. But better? I think that’s just pushing it.

Will We Get Flash on the iPhone?

I don’t know about you, but I have been wanting Flash on my iPhone for some time now. I know a lot of iPhone purists don’t want to see Adobe Flash make it to the iPhone, but I am not a purist, so I don’t mind Flash being on my phone. Now here is the thing. Apple doesn’t seem very interested in the idea. Apple insiders have talked about Flash not being suited for mobile phones such as iPhone, and there doesn’t seem to be any indication that Apple will allow Flash even if Adobe tried.

They have tried. Adobe has tried to bring Flash mobile friendly just as they have tried to make it SEO friendly. But Steve Jobs wants the whole Flash and not Flash Lite, and we know “full” Flash doesn’t work that well on mobile phones. It’s a vicious circle which will probably keep us from seeing Flash on our phones any time soon.

iPhone Struggling To Make Global Headway

We reported a few days ago about iPhone’s extreme success in the U.S., and the fact that iPhone is now the No. 1 phone in America. It’s an extraordinary achievement, given the state of the economy, and the pressure that there is on technology firms to perform. Apple has pulled it off for this past quarter, though the storm hasn’t hit the technology sector yet.

But Apple is still struggling to dominate in a global level. There is no question that Apple has been successful in some European countries but according to the latest reports, iPhone is still not reaching its potential in France and India.

There is such a thing as not “getting it” when it comes to going for the iPhone. That could be one reason behind iPhone underperforming in some countries. But the major issue has been dealing with global service providers. Some countries have service plans that make getting the iPhone very expensive. At the end of the day, as all numbers indicated, Apple’s global success is a matter of “when” and not an “if.”

Apple iPhone Beats Out Razr

It was bound to happen. I personally found it difficult to believe a year ago that Apple could catch up so quickly. But Apple iPhone has surpassed Motorola Razr in the U.S. consumer market. Motorola Razr is a very good phone. It’s obviously not in the iPhone’s league, but the low price and its standard features allow it to compete with the iPhone on a price basis.

Apple may have beaten Motorola finally. But that doesn’t mean Apple folks are dancing in the streets right now. The economy has hit everyone hard in the U.S., and unless things change, Apple could lose its profits in the upcoming quarters. The good news is there is a new direction for the government in the U.S. The bad new is analysts claim the worse is yet to come.

GPhone 10% Cheaper To Build Than iPhone?

CNN Money has an article about this very issue. Google’s android-based phone is 10% cheaper to build than the iPhone. What does that mean? Phones that are cheaper to manufacture give their makers the opportunity to be price competitive. Think about it. If iPhone cots $199, and a phone that has all the basic features a smartphone needs to have is going for $49, which one would you buy?

I know, I would still go with the iPhone. No one i arguing that any phone is better than the iPhone. The problem is that most analysts believe that this year is going to be the worst for retailers and gadget makers as people are keeping a tight hand on their pockets.

Apple did adjust their forecasts for the future quarters, and that shows that Apple, too, is somewhat vulnerable, so I expect Apple to cut their costs in the next quarter or so to make iPhone more profitable for them and more affordable for folks.
