MLB Multimedia App for iPhone
First it was NCAA, now it is MLB. A few days ago, I had a chance to review a NCAA application for the iPhone. Unlike other bracket (stats) applications available on the iPhone, NCAA March Madness On Demand had live video and audio streaming. In a move that gives us a glimpse of where this all is going, MLB has released its own multimedia application to allow baseball fans to listen to the games right on their mobile device.

MLB.com at Bat 2009 now allows you to listen to live baseball games, and you get a choice between home or away announcers. Streaming media on the iPhone may not be something new, but it certainly shows where we are going. You can’t see video with this baseball application, but we are certainly getting there. And I wouldn’t be surprised if other developers adopt the same strategy. The main challenge at this point is finding a way to stream video without exploding costs. For now, we have Wi-Fi connection to get around that.
Your take: how much extra would you pay to watch MLB games live on your iPhone?
