iPhone News: Weekend Round-up 0717

What a week it’s been. First, we get a new iPhone 3.0 beta release that effectively ends free tethering on iPhone. It’s no secret that AT&T is planning to charge a bit for that feature, so it was the matter of time before Apple disabled the feature. The good news is that hacks will be out there soon enough. But I am not sure if Palm Pre can find a hack around the latest developments with iTunes. Apple had warned its rivals that it was not going to provide iTunes support to them. Folks who were switching to Palm Pre were still managing their music with iTunes. But Apple is not having any of it at this point, and that is why the latest iTunes update is bad news for Palm Pre and Pre holders. No wonder people are already calling for Apple’s monopoly to end.
There have been a lot of controversies about how Apple handles new applications on iTunes. Many have complained that the process is too rigorous. And some just don’t like Apple’s policy towards some apps. But that hasn’t kept developers from coming up with some cool apps for iPhone. Businesses are finally starting to embrace the iPhone platform and realize its full potential. Even Google is taking advantage of the platform to provide value to iPhone holders. With all the talk about iPod Video, the next generation iPhone, and Apple netbook, the next few months are going to be very interesting.
