CrunchGear has an interesting article on how you can go about unlocking your iPhone 3G. I have personally got it to work the first time on my iPhone, but am always hesitant about jailbreaking my phones. I remember the last time I had a couple of brick after Apple made changes to their firmware, so approach with caution here. Nevertheless, the instructions are pretty easy to follow.
