6 Must See iPhone Apps for Ramadan

The month of Ramadan is one of the most important periods to the Muslim community around the globe. It’s a month of fasting and praying but does have some rules too. Muslims should not eat or drink anything from early morning all the way to late afternoon. They are also encouraged to pray more to connect with their God. Thanks to Ramadan apps for iPhone, Muslims around the globe can fast and pray more (at the right time) with less headaches.

If you are a Muslim or know someone who belongs to that community, you should check these 6 Ramadan iPhone apps out:

Azan Alarm Clock: you may be fasting in this month, but as far as I know (and I am not a Muslim) you still need to pray at least 5 times each day. This app helps you get up at the right time for your morning prayer.

Sun n Moon for iPhone: a GPS-enabled application that shows you sun rise/set and moon rise/set times. You have plenty of options to choose your location.

Ramadan Guide: perfect app for those who are just getting started with fasting. If you have never done it before, this app could give you some good information and help you handle this period more easily. Read the rest of this entry »

Apple’s September 7th Event: Apple TV + Extras

It would be wishful thinking to expect Apple to release Verizon iPhone in a matter of couple of weeks. But the rumors of a new Apple TV with super cheap plans have been going around for some time now. Kevin Rose of Digg did claim that Apple intends to introduce a $99 iTV “very soon.” What good is a new Apple TV without decent content to go with it? According to Bloomberg, Apple is in advanced talks with News Corp to let people rent TV shows for only $0.99 per episode.

Viewers would be able to rent programs from News Corp.’s Fox for 48 hours, said the people, who declined to be identified because the discussions aren’t public. CBS Corp., NBC Universal and Walt Disney Co. — where Apple Chief Executive Officer Steve Jobs is a board member and the largest shareholder — also are in talks about joining the effort

That is going to put a huge amount of pressure on the cable industry to up its game. While it’s not clear how much Apple will go into its content partnerships on September 7th, the timing seems to be right for iTV. Of course, iTV won’t be the only product to be unveiled on that day.

iTV To Debut Soon, iMac Touch Next?

Apple hits keep up coming. We have known for years that Verizon iPhone is in the works. It is nice to see that after a couple of years of speculation, the phone is finally going to make its debut next year. If everything goes according to the plan of course. According to multiple sources, Verizon and Apple are negotiating the final details of their partnership. Could it mean that the deal could still fall through? Perhaps. But things are moving forward:

From our understanding, the Verizon negotiations are not finalized with important details still being ironed out, including technology and economics. We think it is premature to rule out T-Mobile or Sprint (who also uses CDMA but WiMAX for 4G). In addition, there is the possibility of multiple U.S. carriers being signed.

While most iPhone fans are not super excited about the possibility of T-Mobile or Sprint iPhone, we could technically see those before a Verizon iPhone. But Apple needs to pick up another carrier, which should be good news for those frustrated with AT&T’s quality of service.

Apple To Go After Jailbroken iPhones?

Apple may have failed to convince the government that jailbreaking should be illegal. That does not mean it is ready to give up the fight. Apple has been after jailbreakers for quite some time (even going as far as closing down some hackers’ accounts). The company may have failed to stop jailbreakers for now, but it is planning to go after those jailbroken phones. A patent filed by Apple in 2009 clearly shows the company’s intent to stop iPhone thieves and jailbreakers. In that patent, Apples goes into details of what makes a compromised device and how it intends to deal with such units.

the particular activity comprises one or more of hacking the electronic device, jailbreaking the electronic device, unlocking the electronic device, removing a SIM card from the electronic device, and moving at least a predetermined distance away from a synced device.

Once your device realizes that it’s been compromised, it can start acting in a weird fashion. It could start recording information or even show a notification on its screen. Apple intends to go one step further. Why send a notification to a jailbroken phone when Apple can just disable a few feature here or there. Read the rest of this entry »
