Apple Nixes iPhone 4 Restocking Fees

Apple has been stunned by the fact that it has been using the wrong formula to calculate network strength on iPhone 4. While the company is not ready to blame a part of the problem on its antenna design, it is willing to take your phone back within 30 days of purchase without any additional fees. Considering that Apple will face a lot of lawsuits over iPhone 4, this move may not be that significant after all.

Let’s face it. Apple does not know how to respond to this tsunami of criticism that it has received over iPhone 4. We are not just talking about the antenna issue. It seems some iPhone 4 owners are having issues with their cameras. Add to that the fact that some iTunes accounts may have been recently hacked, and Apple is on the verge of facing a huge disaster.

Steve Jobs’ Conversations Fake?

Everybody knows that there are a few fake Steve Jobs out there. Just a while ago we had a reputable news organization use a fake Steve’s tweet to report an iPhone 4 recall, which we know won’t be happening anytime soon. It seems people are now making up and sharing fake conversations with Steve Jobs and stirring the pot in the process. The Boy Genius Report recently reported a conversation between Steve Jobs and an iPhone 4 owner in which Steve was a bit dismissal of iPhone 4 issues. According to Apple’s PR department, those conversations may be fake. Here are a few things Mr. Jobs allegedly has said to customers:

  • No, you are getting all worked up over a few days of rumors. Calm down.
  • You are most likely in an area with very low signal strength.
  • You may be working from bad data. Not your fault. Stay tuned. We are working on it.
  • “Retire, relax, enjoy your family. It is just a phone. Not worth it.” (attributed both to Mr. Jobs and the customer)

Could Steve be the author of some of these quotes? It’s possible. The last one certainly sounds fake. Steve Jobs would never put down iPhone when talking to customers.

Apple Sued over iPhone 4

It was bound to happen. Lawyers have been searching for people who are dissatisfied and distressed enough by their iPhone to sue Apple. Unfortunately, as Apple is going to realize soon, there are people who will sue companies for any reason they can find. Considering that the death grip problem is not just limited to iPhone 4, one has to wonder why Apple has not been sued enough over other iterations of iPhone. That may soon change as well. Who knows.

A pair of Maryland residents have sued Apple and AT&T over iPhone’s connection issues. It took them only about 15 days to realize what a rip off iPhone 4 has been:

Plaintiffs are left with a device that cannot be used for the normal purpose and in the normal manner in which such devices are intended to be used… Plaintiffs are unable to return the phone without incurring a substantial restocking fee.

Apple and AT&T can expect more lawsuits unless they address the antenna issue and do it fast. It’s very uncharacteristic of Apple to respond to complaints the way it did initially (essentially waving the issue off). Let’s hope a software patch can solve this issue.

3 Exciting Upcoming Solar iPhone Speakers

We have seen a lot of iPhone solar chargers in the past. They certainly make life convenient for iPhone owners who want to spend some time on the road. But chargers are not the only things that can be powered with solar technology. A few companies are in the process of bringing solar iPhone speakers to the market. While it’s tough to make a judgment on these speakers without testing them, they are certainly something to look forward to.

Without further ado, here are 3 solar speakers for iPhone that are worth checking out:

Etón Soulra Solar Powered Sound System for iPod and iPhone: Eton’s solar products need no introduction. This one is not only good looking and rugged, it’s splash proof. It uses solar power to let you listen to your music outdoors.

ReNu Solar Powered Audio Dock for iPod and iPhone: a solar iPhone dock that not only lets you sync your device with your computer, it provides 8 hours of music when charged using solar energy.

ReNu ReVerb Flat Panel Speaker with Built-in Solar Panel: not a cheap speaker system by any means. Has an integrated photovoltaic panel and can provide 12 hours of play time for your iPhone when charged.

These are pretty exciting devices (though they are not cheap). It’ll be interesting to see if these speakers perform as advertised.
