Apple to Ditch the Dock Connector, Android Apps 2.5x more Expensive?

Anyone who has owned an iPod, iPhone, and iPad is familiar with the dock connector. It seems the traditional version may not be here to stay for too long. Apple is rumored to be thinking about ditching it to adopt a “micro dock” which would make room for bigger batteries, 4G radios, and other components. The current one is a big component and takes more space than it should. Considering that Apple is expected to bring LTE-compatible devices to the market in the near future, it will have to make some changes to open some space for 4G LTE radios.

Apple iDevices have changed a lot in the past couple of years. With the “PC-free” approach adopted by the company, the dock connector will have a less important role to play. In the future, we may only need a charging cable for iOS devices as all the syncing and streaming will be done over the air. Of course, this will be a huge change by Apple. iOS Closing The Gap With Android?

We keep hearing about how Android is blowing out its competition. It is true that the Android platform has grown a lot in the past couple of years. But as the Nielsen suggests, iOS has been able to close the gap in sales at the end of last year. iOS’ share reached 44.5% (among recent acquirers) in December which is not far behind Android’s share at 46.9%.

J.D.Power: Apple is #1 in Customer Satisfaction

Many folks assume that iPhone is the most popular smartphone around due to its shiny looks and Apple’s brilliant marketing machine. Those have contributed to Apple’s success. But they are not the only reasons people keep buying more iPhones. In reality, Apple products have proven time and time again that they just work. As many media outlets have reported, the iPhone has come on top in customer satisfaction according to J.D. Power and Associates’ 2011 U.S. Wireless Smartphone Customer Satisfaction Study:

Verizon Android Share Down: iOS at Fault?

Google and Apple will be going back and forth over market supremacy in the mobile OS business in the next few years. Regardless of what one thinks of Android, there is no question the platform has grown so rapidly in the past few months. With Google acquiring Motorola Mobility, its competition with Apple is expected to only intensify. Unfortunately for Google, Android is not exactly killing iOS off. Take Verizon for instance. It has been selling Android phones for a couple of years already. But there are signs the network is losing Android marketshare since iPhone 4′s debut in it.
