Adobe Brings Flash Apps To iPhone

The Apple Adobe saga has gone for more than it’s had to. The two companies went back and forth for months over Adobe Flash. Apple has been tough on Adobe over Flash. The company is not completely opposed to having Flash available on iPhone but it still believes that Flash is too resource-intensive and will take away from the Apple iPhone experience, more than it adds to it anyways. In its latest release, Adobe has addressed some of those “resource” issues, making Adobe Flash more suitable for mobile phones. While all other major smart-phones are going to fully support Flash, Apple has still opted out of allowing a full Flash revolution to happen on its smartphone.

Adobe has tried to work with Apple over all the issues that Flash may cause on iPhone but Apple has simply been not receptive. Many experts have compared Apple’s treatment of Adobe to that of Google. Adobe, for its part, has taken yet another shot at Apple for blocking Adobe Flash Player on iPhone:

Apple restricts use of technologies required by products like Flash Player. Until Apple eliminates these restrictions, Adobe cannot provide Flash Player for the iPhone or iPod touch.

Apple Getting a Cold Feet With Adobe?

Adobe

Adobe + Apple = match made in heaven, right? Not really. Apple and Adobe have been at odds for a long time. When the first iPhone was released, I remember asking some of my colleagues about the reason these two giants couldn’t work together. I get what Steve’s all about here. He is not going to put a software on iPhone that may take away from the overall experience of the iPhone holders. But Flash does matter, and there are a lot of folks who want to finally see Adobe and Apple work together.

Will we ever get Flash on iPhone? I thought so a few weeks ago, but I am not as sure today. Apple and Adobe were expected to work closely together to bring Flash to the iPhone platform. But it seems Apple is getting cold feet with Adobe. Adobe’s latest Flash Lite is still not compatible with the iPhone, and there doesn’t seem to be any progress in Apple-Adobe talks. Apple has been demanding about what it wants to see from Adobe. And Adobe does need iPhone’s base to continue its growth. But it seems Adobe is a like a desperate bride and Apple’s got cold feet!

Apple Too Demanding on Adobe?

Adobe

Not having Adobe Flash on the iPhone has been one of the biggest issues that I have had with my phone. Apple and Adobe have been talking about some collaborations that they are doing to bring a Flash experience to the iPhone, but so far we haven’t seen much come out of it. It turns out Adobe is trying hard to bring Flash to our shiny phone. Here is what Adobe’s CEO had about this challenge:

It’s a hard technical challenge, and that’s part of the reason Apple and Adobe are collaborating

Steve Jobs has been critical of Adobe products in the past. He has found them to be “too slow” to operate on the iPhone. By listening to Steve Jobs, you can come to the conclusion that Apple doesn’t really need Adobe. They are collaborating to bring more value to their customers, but Apple iPhone has been doing fun even without Adobe being involved.

Will we see Flash on the iPhone? I hope so. Unlike iPhone purists, I don’t mind having Flash on my phone. But will Apple pull out all the stops to accomplish this? It does not look likely.

Flash Video Not Suitable for iPhone?

Don’t give me that. Well. Actually, Steve Jobs did. SlashDot is reporting that Mr. Jobs was pretty critical about Flash Video and Mobile Flash, and it seems at this point Flash is not a part of plans for Apple. I am sure Apple is thinking of some other solution to address this issue, but Adobe Flash right now doesn’t look like to have a stable future on iPhone.
