Steve Jobs’ Conversations Fake?

Everybody knows that there are a few fake Steve Jobs out there. Just a while ago we had a reputable news organization use a fake Steve’s tweet to report an iPhone 4 recall, which we know won’t be happening anytime soon. It seems people are now making up and sharing fake conversations with Steve Jobs and stirring the pot in the process. The Boy Genius Report recently reported a conversation between Steve Jobs and an iPhone 4 owner in which Steve was a bit dismissal of iPhone 4 issues. According to Apple’s PR department, those conversations may be fake. Here are a few things Mr. Jobs allegedly has said to customers:

  • No, you are getting all worked up over a few days of rumors. Calm down.
  • You are most likely in an area with very low signal strength.
  • You may be working from bad data. Not your fault. Stay tuned. We are working on it.
  • “Retire, relax, enjoy your family. It is just a phone. Not worth it.” (attributed both to Mr. Jobs and the customer)

Could Steve be the author of some of these quotes? It’s possible. The last one certainly sounds fake. Steve Jobs would never put down iPhone when talking to customers.

Apple Sued over iPhone 4

It was bound to happen. Lawyers have been searching for people who are dissatisfied and distressed enough by their iPhone to sue Apple. Unfortunately, as Apple is going to realize soon, there are people who will sue companies for any reason they can find. Considering that the death grip problem is not just limited to iPhone 4, one has to wonder why Apple has not been sued enough over other iterations of iPhone. That may soon change as well. Who knows.

A pair of Maryland residents have sued Apple and AT&T over iPhone’s connection issues. It took them only about 15 days to realize what a rip off iPhone 4 has been:

Plaintiffs are left with a device that cannot be used for the normal purpose and in the normal manner in which such devices are intended to be used… Plaintiffs are unable to return the phone without incurring a substantial restocking fee.

Apple and AT&T can expect more lawsuits unless they address the antenna issue and do it fast. It’s very uncharacteristic of Apple to respond to complaints the way it did initially (essentially waving the issue off). Let’s hope a software patch can solve this issue.

Apple Sets Record, Troubles Continue

Anyway one looks at it, this year has been a success for Apple. The company set records with iPad and now is doing the same with iPhone 4. Apple seems to have sold 1.7m iPhone 4 units in its first 3 days. That even beats the numbers for iPhone 3G S.

This is the most successful product launch in Apple’s history…. Even so, we apologize to those customers who were turned away because we did not have enough supply,

said Steve Jobs, CEO, Apple. Apple has not had it all figured out though. People are still complaining about iPhone’s reception issues. When something starts trending on popular sites, you know the issue is very serious.

As is the case with almost anything, lawyers are already courting iPhone owners who may have suffered emotional distress and feel like suing Apple. A class action suit seems to be gathering steam, though Apple may not be worried about that just yet.

iPhone 4: Are You Buying?

For a lot of Apple fans, today feels like Christmas. After all, today’s the day people can get their hands on iPhone 4 without having to wait till July for Apple to ship one to them. A huge number of people are expected to participate in today’s “camp out & stand-in-line ritual.” Those who get there very early have a better chance of getting their phone and getting out of there fairly quickly. Lines could get ugly indeed. Let’s face it. Today’s event could crush any records Apple has set in the past. People may even have to check multiple stores to make sure they do get their hands on their iPhone (as was the case with the previous iPhone launch).

The bad news is white iPhone is not going to be available anytime soon. If you are willing to wait to get it, that makes it even more special. It is going to be a long wait though. The rumors about FedEx having issues tracking iPhone deliveries have not been encouraging to iPhone fans.

Google Voice on iPhone: Any Chance for Native App?

In case you missed it, Google Voice is finally open to everyone. Google Voice for iPhone is one of those apps that Apple rejected quite a while ago as its relationship with Google started to deteriorate. Google Voice gives you a universal number that rings all your phones and does a lot of cool things. While Apple is not ready to approve Google Voice’s native app for iPhone, Google is offering a web-based service to iPhone owners to get around Apple’s restrictions.

The web version of Google Voice is capable of offering a lot of things you’d get with the native app, but it does have its limitations. Google Voice’s international rates are cheap. The service can save people a lot of money. Now that it is open to everyone, maybe Apple will consider approving it for iPhone. I wouldn’t hold my breath though. Read the rest of this entry »
