iPod Nano and iPod Touch to Improve

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

If you are an Apple iPod owner, you should not feel left out with all the upgrades that Apple is planning to make for the iPhone 3G. The good folks at Engadget are claiming that the Apple iPod line will also get refreshed somewhat with new capacities and lower prices.

I still believe that Apple will need to address the identity crisis that the iPod line is suffering at some point in the future. Maybe that the surprise for September?

After iPhone 3G, what of iPod Touch?

With the iPhone coming out in a couple of weeks, one needs to wonder the direction that will be going with the iPod touch. Till now, iPod touch has been the poor man’s iPhone. If you can’t afford the service plan but want to have a cool wifi digital media player, iPod touch is there. But with iPod touch and iPhone being almost identical (except the phone and a few other features), wouldn’t it better to combine the two devices into one?

I believe that the age of us having to have an MP3 Player, a Phone, a Camera, and … in differnet devices is really coming to an end. People want to have an all-in-one solution on the go. iPod touch is not the iPhone, but there is always a possibility of product cannibalization when you are dealing with brother and sister device such as the iPod Touch and the iPhone. Why not offer iPhones to people with the option of not activating the device. In essence, instead of having an iPod touch for people to buy, why not just offer them iPhones. If they don’t activate them, then it will be just a music player with Wifi and Camera. I am sure Apple does not want to do that right now with all the precautions that its taking to make people buy the 2 year service contracts from AT&T. But the future of iPod Touch and iPhone looks awfully similar. In fact, for one of these devices, there may not be a future after all.

Solar Option Would Help iPod More Than iPhone

iPhone and iPod touch may look very similiar but they do attract different audiences. After all, iPhone is a phone power house that brings connectivity to a whole new level. iPod touch is really here and there. It’s a PDA that plays multi-media and take advantage of Wi-Fi but does not provide connection on the EDGE network, which makes iPod touch a limited connected device.

Having said that, adding a solar power could do wonders for the iPod touch. Just introducing 64 GB or 128 GB iPod touches would not be an acceptable improvement for Apple fans. But a solar powered iPod touch would be such a unique device that would blow a hole through all the iPod killers in the market.

It is not known whether Apple will introduce the solar powered iPod and iPhone this year, but when they do, that will push Apple to a whole new level.

Apple iPod Touch 32 GB Comes To Life

Well, what do you know! Apple has just upped its iPhone and iPod touch lines. Now we have a 16 GB iPhone and an 32 GB iPod touch. Of course, Apple is charging a $100 more for these super iPod and iPhones, but I suppose it’s overpriced by just a bit.
