Apple Marches On, Palm Stumbles

Apple is taking the iPhone platform to new heights with each and every update. It’s true that a lot of Apple fans were disappointed when Apple did not come up with a brad new design for the device, but that doesn’t seem to have stopped Apple’s momentum in the market. Add to that the latest changes that Apple has made to iPod nano, the company has a lot of momentum behind it. Things are going to get better when Apple introduces the new devices that it has been working on for months. That can’t be said for Palm. The company did come up with a decent iPhone challenger in Palm Pre. But while Apple is going strong, Palm is failing to gain the momentum it needs to keep up with the iPhone.

Palm Pre may be called an iPhone killer, but it can end up killing Palm’s hope of getting back in the game if it bombs. The device is very powerful and capable. However, it is not an iPhone, and it doesn’t enjoy the advantages that iPhone has over other cell phones. Worst of all, there are plenty of other capable smart-phones that are trying to achieve what Palm has failed to achieve — mount a real challenge to iPhone.

Palm may have lost a lot of money recently, but it is still planning to offer a strong line up for the holiday season. Any way you look at it, Palm Pre and Web OS are Palm’s last chance of keeping up with Apple and RIM. The stakes are much higher for Palm these days, and the company is in the desperate need of good news these days. The sales results could be worse, so Palm has something to be optimistic about.

While Apple competitors struggle to keep up, Apple reaches new heights with the iPhone. Surely, we all want to see the iPhone offered through other carriers. It would be nice if iPhone 4.0 came with a fresh look and feel. But with the latest updates to iTunes, and the recent security upgrades for iPhone, the iPhone + iTunes combo is more solid than ever. With iPhone 4.0 and the iPad on the horizon, it’s difficult to see an end for Apple’s current momentum. That momentum will be difficult to handle even for Palm.
