It was bound to happen. Lawyers have been searching for people who are dissatisfied and distressed enough by their iPhone to sue Apple. Unfortunately, as Apple is going to realize soon, there are people who will sue companies for any reason they can find. Considering that the death grip problem is not just limited to iPhone 4, one has to wonder why Apple has not been sued enough over other iterations of iPhone. That may soon change as well. Who knows.
A pair of Maryland residents have sued Apple and AT&T over iPhone’s connection issues. It took them only about 15 days to realize what a rip off iPhone 4 has been:
Plaintiffs are left with a device that cannot be used for the normal purpose and in the normal manner in which such devices are intended to be used… Plaintiffs are unable to return the phone without incurring a substantial restocking fee.
Apple and AT&T can expect more lawsuits unless they address the antenna issue and do it fast. It’s very uncharacteristic of Apple to respond to complaints the way it did initially (essentially waving the issue off). Let’s hope a software patch can solve this issue.
Apple’s competitors are not going to let it off the hook either. They are already knocking iPhone 4 for its antenna issues. iPhone 4 was recently knocked in a Motorola Droid X ad. Similar attack ads will be used by other companies too.
It’s not clear how Apple got into this hole. The company is known for its exceptional design process, and these issues should have been caught during the testing process. iPhone 4 is still a wonderful device, but Apple has dropped the ball here a bit.
