Many of our Apple devices need solid WiFi connection to perform the tasks we want them to. These devices work with 802.11n wireless networks. Apple intends to offer even faster speeds by adopting the 802.11ac standard. The specification is expected to be adopted in new AirPort base stations, Time Capsule, Apple TV, and notebooks.
802.11ac wireless networks will offer much faster speeds by using up to 4 times the frequency bandwidth than before, more antennas, and more efficient data transfers. The 802.11ac specification is not an official standard yet. But some suppliers have already issued chipsets that support it. The 802.11ac WiFi networks will have a better range with speeds above 1 Gigabit.
Adopting an unfinalized wireless specification is nothing new. In fact, Apple has done it in the past. Apple’s AirPort base stations adopted 802.11n technology before it became finalized. Considering that Broadcom has already announced a family of chips supporting 802.11ac technology, there is a good chance we will see super speedy WiFi connections in Apple’s upcoming products. Networks taking advantage of 802.11ac will certainly offer better streaming capabilities too. In this day and age where speed is everything, these 802.11ac products are expected to become popular fast.
