Apple To Remove YouTube App, Roll Out New Dock Connector This Fall

Those of you who have been buying iPhones, iPads and iPod Touches in the pasts few years know they shipped with an official YouTube app. Considering how popular YouTube is, that was never surprising. The relationship between Apple and Google has not been the best. Now it seems the new iOS software won’t have YouTube right from the start. Here is how Apple explained this:

Our license to include the YouTube app in iOS has ended but users can still use YouTube via the Safari web app

That’s a bit inconvenient considering that many iOS fans have gotten used the idea of having YouTube installed on their device right from the start. The good news is Google is indeed working on a standalone YouTube app which we all will be able to download from the App Store.

We are working with Apple to ensure we have the best possible YouTube experience for iOS users,

a YouTube spokesperson told Wired.com. It will be interesting to see where both companies go from here. Apple will likely replace the YouTube app with another one (not necessarily a video app though). As far as Google is concerned, it will now have more control to add new features to its YouTube app.  It is a bit inconvenient to have to download apps such as YouTube but iPhone users will get used to it.

Speaking of changes, Apple is planning to introduce a smaller dock connector for iOS devices very soon. The iPhone 5 will not be the only device to get it though. As iMore has found out, other iOS devices will have the small dock connector starting this fall. This means the 9.7 iPad could also get an small update in a couple of months. The move makes sense considering that there is no need for Apple to keep pushing devices with larger dock connectors. A mini dock adapter seems to be in the works too. It is not clear how much that will cost.
