We have been hearing for a while how Apple is working on a Netbook or a tablet to expand its business and give us consumers another reason to part ways with our hard-earned money. The latest rumors have hinted at Apple developing a media pad to go beyond where Amazon has gone with Kindle. In case you didn’t pay attention, Amazon released its latest Kindle (Kindle DX), just a few days ago. It’s a 9.7″ Kindle that makes reading books more convenient. All rumors point to Apple trying to take a page out of Amazon’s playbook to develop an “iPod Touch DX” — a bigger, better device for those who want to consume multimedia content on the go. iPod Touch and iPhone are wonderful gadgets, but it’s not hard to see there would be a decent market for Apple MediaPad if it were released today.
Steve Jobs has indicated in the past that Apple won’t try to challenge Amazon Kindle anytime soon, but a media pad is going to give Apple the chance to beat Kindle in its own game. Put the power of Apple SDK behind the device, and it instantly becomes a huge challenger to Kindle. Apple is not known for working on one trick pony devices. You can expect the MediaPad to be a digital powerhouse that lets you surf the Web, read books, consume media, socialize online and create content on the go. That’s way more than anything Kindle DX can do.
