Many folks assume that when their phone or tablet is turned off or out of juice, it stops working completely. That does not seem to be the case for devices that have the M7 co-processor inside them. Here is a story Redditor Glarznak shared about this:
While traveling abroad, my iPhone cable stopped working so my 5s died completely. I frequently use Argus to track my steps … Once I got back from my vacation and charged the phone, I was surprised to see that Argus displayed a number of steps for the 4 days that my phone was dead.
Of course, we know that M7 does not consume too much energy, so this wouldn’t be a surprise. We can’t say we have replicated this. Of course, running very low on battery is very much different than having a completely dead battery. Nevertheless, it is interesting that Apple has never explicitly talked about this feature.
Speaking of Apple, we know the company is very interested in bringing iOS into our cars. It is not buying Tesla yet but it has taken a good step forward with CarPlay. Wonder how CarPlay integration works in a Ferrari? The above video shows just that. CarPlay is not awfully hard to get used to, and it is designed to be safe for drivers. Naturally, if you don’t have an iOS device, you can always rely by solutions from other companies, e.g. Google, to get things done in your car.
