Apple and Google have not exactly been on the best of terms for quite some time. Since Eric Schmidt exited Apple’s board, things started to go south between both companies. Apple rejecting Google apps such as Google Voice did not help the relationship. Apple has started changing its policy towards Google apps or so it seems. GV apps have already been approved to iTunes. Now Google fans get to play with Goggles on iPhone.
Google Goggles has been around for a while. It’s still a beta product by all measures. It’s a revolutionary technology that when works it could enable searchers to find what they are looking for, using their photos. Google Goggles is not flawless. In fact, it’s far from that. The technology is in early stages, which means searchers better get used to the idea of their app failing to properly recognize their photos. It does work decent with books, CDs, and similar items.
Google Goggles is currently available for free as a part of Google Mobile App for iPhone. The app also offers voice, local, and vertical search. Does this mean Google and iPhone are friends again? Don’t count on it just yet.
