Apple announced two new iPads at its event a couple of days ago. While we got to see the iPad mini with Retina display in action, there is no guarantee all of us will get our hands on it this holiday season. IHS analyst Rhoda Alexander is suggesting that the supply for the product is very tight. In fact, we should not expect meaningful volume until the first quarter of 2014.
Making these beautiful iPad mini devices is not easy. Apple will surely start selling the product soon. But there could be long delays for those who miss the early batches.
Speaking of the new iPads, it is no secret that many of us love the models that have a Retina-level display. According to Consumer Intelligence Research Partners, iPad buyers want Retina displays but would love to pay less to get an iPad. The survey suggests that more shoppers will opt for cheaper iPad models with lower storage capacity. Apple could have put a lot of pressure on other players in this market by offering the iPad mini for $199 but that is not happening any time soon.
