There is no question that investors and some Apple fans are a bit disappointed with what Apple introduced yesterday in iPhone 4S. iPhone 4S is not a bad upgrade over its predecessor by any means. But we had heard so much about iPhone 5 and its new design, it is hard to be completely satisfied about iPhone 4S. As soon as Tim Cook and his team announced the device, Apple’s stock started going south. Instead of going for broke, Apple has decided to stay conservative and bring a device to the market that will sell a ton but won’t be a whole lot ahead of its rivals.
iPhone 4S does have an A5 dual core processor and will be 7 times faster when it comes to running graphics. This is a world phone with a 8MP camera and 1080p video capture capability. Apple will be relying mainly on Siri and the new camera to sell this. Siri is a voice assistant that allows iPhone 4S owners to interact with their phone. iOS 5 will also be a brand new experience for many Apple fans. It offers a ton of new features and will be available for download on October 12th.
Apple has dropped many of its prices to stay more competitive in the markets it is involved in. iPhone 4 will only cost $99, which should allow Apple to reach more homes. The fact that iPhones are available through 3 carriers in the U.S. means a ton more people will be holding these gadgets in the upcoming months. Of course, not every existing customer will be eligible for an upgrade (depends on your carrier).
Is iPhone 4S a disappointment? It should be for die-hard iPhone fans. This was the first event with Tim Cook as the permanent CEO. While the approach is a bit conservative, it does not give markets a whole lot of confidence about the future. iPhone 4S device is still superior to all other Apple phones. The iOS 5 is something worth being exciting about too (if you have not downloaded it already). Overall, this was an underwhelming effort by Tim Cook and his team. Regardless, Apple will sell a ton of these phones in the next few months as the anticipation builds for the real iPhone 5 in 2012.
