Those of us who have been following the evolution of iPhone from the very day it was launched know too well about some of the issues that AT&T had to face early on. iPhone is a super phone. iPhone owners do consume a lot of data, putting extra pressure on their wireless carrier. AT&T had trouble offering reliable service to iPhone customers for a long time. Some still complain about the quality of service offered by that company. It seems Sprint is now realizing that servicing iPhone is not a walk in the park.
Sprint may have reported record activations shortly after it started selling iPhones. But there are signs that the company may be having trouble keeping up with the load being put on its network. Many Sprint customers are complaining about data speeds on their phones. Multiple sources are reporting that Sprint representatives have received an internal memo, confirming nationwide issues in regards to data speed on iPhones.
Overall, iPhone performance on the Sprint network is consistent with our expectations and the rest of our high-end portfolio. Sprint also did bench-marking of Sprints iPhone against competitors iPhones and the testing showed little to no performance difference. We are seeing a very low return rate for this device but we are watching the reports of speed issues very closely. We do see opportunities to optimize performance, specifically in high network capacity areas,
explained Sprint to TNW. For now Sprint is downplaying the issue. But the company is working with Apple to optimize the performance of iPhones on its network. Customers who have called Sprint have been told the issue is being worked on. Just like AT&T, it will most likely take Sprint a while to fix this issue.
