We have heard this rumor a number of times in the past. The next generation iPhone is likely to have a fingerprint sensor. But could Apple build the fingerprint scanner into the iPhone’s screen? That seems to be what the latest patent application from Apple reveals. As Patently Apple has covered, the technology revealed in this document is from Apple’s acquired AuthenTec.
Adding a fingerprints sensor to the iPhone is going to make the device even more business-friendly. All owners will have to do is place their finger on the touch-screen display to have it analyzed. Apple would not use the technology unless it is very accurate.
At this point, it is not clear whether Apple will be adding a fingerprint reader to its iPhones that will ship this year. Rumors have it that the iPhone 5S is delayed anyway.
