iPod Touch Gets Siri, iOS 5 Causing Battery Issues?

Apple did not release an iPhone 5 this year. But it did release iOS 5 and Siri, both of which are now causing issues for Apple fans. Siri was promoted as a personal assistant for iPhone 4S. But there are many other Apple customers that are interested in using Siri on their devices. It seems iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4G have been hacked to run Siri. Videos of Siri running on these devices are already generating buzz across the Internet.

In order to run Siri on iPod Touch and iPhone 4, you will need to run a jailbreak on your device. Steve Troughton Smith & Chpwn are currently perfecting and testing the solution. It is worth noting that iPod Touch does not have a high quality insides like iPhone 4S. So Siri may not perform as well on the device. iPhone 4 does seem to work just fine with this jailbreak solution.

The introduction of iOS has not been without issues. Many Apple customers are complaining about their batteries performing poorly after upgrading to iOS 5.  Apple has already started investigating this issue. As the Guardian suggests, the “Setting Time Zone” feature may be the culprit:

It appears that iOS 5’s GM release introduced a bug that causes the Setting Time Zone function to keep the location tracking circuitry running constantly, draining battery power considerably. Switching it off may mean that your iPhone will no longer set its own time zone when you travel, but that’s a small price to pay for having your iPhone last more than 12 hours on a full charge…We have tested this method on 4 different iPhone 4S handsets, including an iPhone 4 and an iPhone 3GS. explains iDownload Blog. It is worth noting that not everyone has had success with this solution. Considering that Apple is working on this issue, we expect to see a patch for battery-gate any day now.
