Objective C Now Third Most Popular, Windows 8 Metro for iPhone

The iOS app business is quite lucrative. Plenty of folks have made a decent amount of money by bringing their iPhone and iPad apps to the market. Those of you who have programmed iOS apps in the past know Objective-C too well. The programming language has now overtaken C++ in popularity. C is still the top language with Java following in the second place. Considering that Objective-C was ranked 46th on TIOBE’s list just a year ago, its fast rise is mainly due to the iOS app business growing.

This is less about Objective-C and more about the success of the Apple ecosystem … Objective-C is enjoying that benefit. If it had been another language [on the Apple platform], it would have enjoyed that too,

explains Nolan Wright, the technology chief at Appcelerator. Objective C accounts for 9.3% of the world’s software (C++ is 4th with 9.1% share). Considering that the language is very easy to learn, Apple has made a great choice relying on it for its platform. It is highly unlikely that Objective-C will pass Java or C anytime soon.

These days, we hear a lot about Windows 8 and its new Metro UI. No matter how good it looks, it does not make Windows 8 phones worth investing in.
