Password Stealing Malware Attacking Jailbroken Devices, Google Glass & SMS for iOS

There are many good reasons to jailbreak an iPhone. It is not particularly hard or as scary as some make it out to be. But there are risks involved. Security researchers have uncovered an active malware that steals the Apple ID credentials from jailbroken iPhones and iPads. Going as “unflod,” the malware uses the SSLWrite function on infected devices to scan for ID and passwords transmitted to Apple servers.

As security researcher Stefan Esser has told Arstechnica, the malicious code only works on 32 bit versions of jailbroken iOS. That means newer iPhones should be fine for now. If your phone is infected, you should considering restoring your device. Deleting the Unflod.dylib file from “/Library/MobileSubstrate/DynamicLibraries” might help. At the same time, there are a few unknowns here, so we will have to wait to see if there is a confirmed fix for this.

On a positive note, iPhone users can now get texts from their friends on Glass. It can be done by going to your iPhone’s Bluetooth settings and turning on “Show Notifications.”

As the Google Glass team has mentioned, these changes will take effect in a few days.
