The idea of smart dice for gaming is not new. We have seen other companies pull it off in the past. Scosche’s smartROLL is a set of gaming dice that connect to your smartphone or tablet via Bluetooth. Each die has an accelerometer and motion sensor to show the numbers you are getting. Users will be able to pair up to 10 dice to one device. Since each die is balanced, you will get random results.
The smartROLL set takes advantage of shake to wake functionality to conserve energy. The back-lit LEDs flash when dice are in motion. The durable TPU rubber exterior will go easy on screens. Scosche does need developers at this point. Selected developers get everything they need to start making games for these.
We have been covering Google Glass a lot here lately even though it is not a product by Apple. There were rumors a few months back that Apple might release its own set of smart Glasses. That will take some time though. In fact, Tim Cook is not sold on Google Glass’ potential. Not everyone affords to pay $1500 for a Google Glass, so prices will certainly be much lower in the future. Have you wondered what’s inside a device like Google Glass? CatWig.com has that covered:
Many of us love opening our gadgets. This one won’t be that easy to do unless you are experienced in this area. The tear-down piece covers various parts of Google Glass and how they are related. These glasses are powered by a TI OMAP4430, 16GB of SanDisk flash, and an Elpida mobile DRAM chip. A 570 mAh battery is also included. Is this worth $1500? Probably not. That’s the reason most experts believe Google will offer these for a much lower price.
