Many iPhone fans have been asking for Apple to find a way to work with Verizon to offer its smart-phone using Verizon’s network. Now that CDMA Verizon is announced, not everyone seems happy about it. Let’s make no mistake about it. There will be a ton of people who will pre-order or pick up their device as soon as it is available for sale. Then, there will be some who will wait for the next iteration of iPhone. PC World said it best:
The iPhone 5 envy will be bad enough for iPhone 4 veterans; imagine locking into a two-year contract for a smartphone, only to see it become outdated just a few months later. Every time you run into someone with the iPhone 5, you will feel envious, inadequate and, perhaps, a bit sheepish. For that could have been you, had you only been a bit more patient.
Verizon, for its part, should be quite excited about finally having iPhone on board. It took Apple and Verizon years to figure out their differences. Verizon had to make some concessions to get this deal to go through. For instance, Apple wanted to be in control of the “iPhone experience,” which is the reason Verizon won’t be loading iPhone 4 units with “crapware.” Verizon will still have apps available for iPhone but Apple promises fans that they won’t be pre-installed.
Verizon will also start selling CDMA iPads soon. Verizon customers won’t have to pick up iPad + MiFi bundles in the near future. Details are still a bit sketchy about this part of the deal. At this point, it is not clear whether iPad 2 will be 4G compatible.
It would have been nice if Apple iPhone was available on other networks as well. At this time, most iPhone fans are grateful for having options when it comes to picking up a wireless carrier for their device. Considering that iPhone could cost Verizon billions in its first year, Verizon is very optimistic about this project too.
