Eric Schmidt iPhone to Android Guide, Apple Buys PrimeSense

Large companies such as Apple buy smaller technology firms from time to time to offer more to their customers. Apple has just bought the 3D sensor maker PrimeSense. If the name sounds familiar, it’s due to the fact that the company’s technology has been powering Microsoft’s Kinect controller. This acquisition should open new doors of opportunity to Apple.

Apple is selling a ton of tablets and smartphones these days. Most experts agree that the company needs even more exciting products (e.g. wearable devices) in the future. It is going to take Apple a while to put PrimeSense’s technologies to good use. Apple surely spent $350m on this deal for a good reason.

Speaking of Apple, Eric Schmidt is so desperate for more people to switch to Android that he is now sharing how-to tips in his Google+ posts. The latest one teaches iPhone users to switch to Android:

Many of my iPhone friends are converting to Android. The latest high-end phones from Samsung (Galaxy S4), Motorola (Verizon Droid Ultra) and the Nexus 5 (for AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile) have better screens, are faster, and have a much more intuitive interface… Like the people who moved from PCs to Macs and never switched back, you will switch from iPhone to Android and never switch back as everything will be in the cloud, backed up, and there are so many choices for you

These comments did remind me of the old Steve Ballmer video on Windows years ago. iOS and Android both have their strengths and weaknesses. I suppose we should be thankful to Eric Schmidt for showing us how easy it is to dump an iPhone for an Android device. Wonder if these tips will keep on coming.
