With Verizon iPhone out of the way, the next big release by Apple will most likely be Apple iPad 2. Apple iPad has dominated the tablet market for the past few months. But it will have a lot of competition from Android 3.0 tablets, some of which made their debut at CES 2011. iPad 2 is expected to be upgraded in many areas to stay ahead of iPad competitors.
For starters, iPad 2 is expected to come with an A5 processor inside, which will pack much more power. According to Engadget, iPad 2 will also feature a dual GSM / CDMA chipset produced by Qualcomm. From all the leaks that we have seen in the past couple of months, there is no reason to believe the new iPads won’t have front/rear facing cameras (photo courtesy of 9 to 5 Mac).
Apparently, iPad 2 will have a much better screen as well. Since the release of iPhone 4, Apple fans have been hoping for the company to add a retina display to iPad 2. A photo leaked by Global Direct Parts demonstrates what iPad 2’s screen looks like. It will most likely have a 2048×1536 resolution. A series of icons discovered in iBooks 1.1 suggests this story could be true (photos by Mac Rumors).
Finally, some media outlets are suggesting that iPad 2 could be announced as early as Feb 1st, 2011. Most experts, however, expect iPad 2 to make its debut some time in April. The device is rumored to cost $100 more due to its new screen but we have not been able to confirm that rumor.
