Verizon iPhone Has Antenna Issues, FTC May Investigate Apple

iPhone 4 has been plagued with antenna issues from the very first day it was released to the market. Apple addressed the problem with AT&T iPhones by offering free cases and changing its software (updating its wireless connection algorithm) among other things. With Verizon iPhone out, many experts have claimed that the phone does not have those antenna issues anymore. As reported by iLounge, that is simply not the case. Apparently, Verizon iPhone can lose its connection when held in “death grip” position. On top of that, iPhone can lose WiFi connection when held in “snugly in landscape orientation with two hands.”

At this point, it is not clear how Apple will go about addressing this issue. The company may decide to ignore it for a while or issue a software patch if the problem is widespread. With FTC planning to investigate Apple’s in-app purchasing system, the company will have its hands full. We have all seen those free applications that end up costing you a bit when you are done picking up enough in-app add-ons. Apparently, parents are not happy that their free children apps can end up costing them a fortune.

Even though one needs a password to start buying these add-ons, parents are asking for Apple to make the process harder:

Companies shouldn’t be able to use smurfs and snowflakes and zoos as online ATMs, pulling money from the pockets of unsuspecting parents… The use of mobile apps will continue to escalate, which is why it is critical that more is done now to examine these practices. I will continue to closely monitor this issue and look forward to the FTC’s response,

said Rep. Edward J. Markey. While we do agree that some app developers use Apple’s in-app purchasing system to market their apps in a deceptive fashion, it is not clear how Apple is at fault when parents choose to buy add-ons for the free apps they have picked up. Maybe Apple should just ask for forgiveness by using the brand new Confession app.
