The iPhone and iPad already have pretty decent glass displays. Corning, the maker of Gorilla Glass panels, has announced that Gorilla Glass 3 is on its way. It is expected to debut in CES 2013. Gorilla Glass 3 is tougher and will handle scratches better.
GG3 claims a three-fold improvement in scratch resistance, 40 percent reduction in the number of visible scratches and 50 percent boost in retained strength after the glass becomes flawed.
Keep in mind that you will still have to take care of your phone or tablet and avoid dropping it on its head. But the glass on future iDevices will be tougher against scratches (3 X) . The toughness of Gorilla Glass 3 will be demonstrated in the Corning booth during the CES 2013 event.
