Mac App Store Launching In January?

Many of us were hopeful about seeing Mac App Store before the end of 2010. At this point, it does seem Mac App Store won’t be making its debut in time. Apple seems to be dealing with some complications that are keeping it from bringing its new App Store to life before 2010 is done. It is easy to assume that Mac App Store could be as successful as iOS app store. In reality, Apple will have a big challenge making that happen. Considering the fact that Mac App Store won’t be supporting Game Center or In-App purchases for now, this store will be a work in progress for quite a while.

Mac App Store is expected to be embraced by many developers, at least early on. Those who embraced iPhone’s App Store early on did quite well. There is a chance that could be the case again for those who bring their Mac Apps to the market right after the store’s launch. Here is what one developer had to say about this store:

The first people who were on the iPhone App Store did incredibly well they basically made a fortune.. In the short term, just being there on day one is like possibly winning the trifecta, and in the long term, it’s fun to have that extra boost of money… This could just be the biggest thing to happen to us independent guys. We get to be equally exposed to Microsoft Word, in essence

Apple will be keeping 30% of whatever each developer sells. That could deter those coders who do not want to go through all the effort of writing code just to lose a big chunk of their profits. On the other hand, Mac App Store provides independent developers with the chance to get their product in front of many more people. Will Mac owners buy apps as often as iPhone/iPad owners do? We will have to wait and see.
