We have covered Reeder for Mac, iPhone, and iPad here in the past. These apps are great tools to use to keep up with your favorite blogs. Reeder apps sync with Google Reader, which is always a plus. Unfortunately, Google has decided to kill Google Reader to focus on other projects. Reeder will now be supporting Feedbin and Fever. The iPhone version already supports other services than Google Reader. The iPad and Mac versions of Reeder will soon be upgraded to catch up. Until then, they will be available for free:

The iPhone version already has support for other services than Google Reader. I’m currently working on integrating Feedbin and adding support for standalone/local RSS (still experimental)… Reeder for Mac and iPad will be updated to 2.0 in the coming months. Version 2.0 will add all the features of the iPhone version, including all sharing and syncing services. Until then, Reeder for Mac and Reeder for iPad will be free.

Feedbin is not a free service. It does cost $2 a month. The service does have an API for developers to take advantage of. Digg is also planning to release a Google Reader type service in the future. It is not clear whether Reeder will support that. We will have to wait till July 1st to find out which service replaces Google Reader the best. Maybe Google will change its mind? We doubt it.
