Google Reader is dying in a few days. Many folks have already switched to Feedly, NewsBlur, and other RSS readers. Digg Reader is a new one aiming to capture the attention of people who are still looking for a Google Reader replacement. Digg has been working on the service for a short while. It is in the process of being rolled out:

Augmented reality toys & gizmos ➡️ for iPhone & iPad

If you want to jump into the queue, you can sign up here: digg.com/reader. As we scale up over the next day or so, we’ll be adding users in increasingly larger batches.

This beta version is aimed first and foremost at Google Reader users looking for a new home in advance of its imminent shutdown. Once you connect your Google Account, you’ll find all of your feeds and folders set up and ready to go.  And even if you’re not a Google Reader refugee, come on in!  You can build up your list of sources by browsing recommended publishers or searching for feeds via the “Add” button,

was explained on Digg.com’s blog. You can migrate your feeds and folders from Google Reader to Digg, use shortcuts, and save to Instapaper, Pocket, or Readability already. Digg is expected to add even more features to this service in the upcoming weeks and months. Digg Reader for iOS is already out though. It lets you import your feeds and keep up with your favorite feeds on your iOS device.

Digg admits that this is a beta release. It does intend to roll out an Android app before the end of July. Better tools for organizing feeds and folders are in the works. Considering that Digg had to prepare Digg Reader in a very short period of time, this is an admirable effort.
