Qwen 3 VL AI Model Running on iPhone 17 Pro

The iPhone 17 Pro is one of the most powerful smartphones money can buy. Not surprisingly, you can run a bunch of AI models in it. Take the Qwen 3 VL model: it is a multimodal model from Alibaba Cloud that can handle text, images and videos. You are going to need a highly powerful GPU array to run the most advanced version but as it turns out, someone has managed to run a version of it on iPhone 17 Pro with MLX.

Qwen 3 VL 4B has 4 billion parameters, so it could be too much for these tiny devices. However, an optimized version through Apple’s MLX framework can be used to test this. As Adrien Grondin explains on X, the 4B model is close to Qwen 2.5 VL 72B in many benchmarks. This model has better visual understanding and OCR capabilities.
