The iPhone is not a one trick pony device. It can be your phone, GPS, entertainment device, and much more on the road. But did you know that you can use your iPhone as a universal remote? RedEye is an innovative system that lets you transform your iPhone into a universal remote and lets you use your gadget to control your TV, DVD player, and much more. It’s certainly a strange way to use your iPhone but look at the bright side. You won’t have to spend money on a universal remote.
RedEye communicates with your iPhone through WiFi. It’s a piece of hardware that receives the commands from your iPhone and sends them to your electronics via infrared. The device comes with most of the features that you get with popular universal remotes. You can control your entertainment system from anywhere around your house. As the communication between your iPhone and RedEye gets down through a WiFi connection, you won’t have to be in the same room as your RedEye hardware to control your system. RedEye system is modular as well. So you can always use multiple iPhones as your remotes, and you can add multiple RedEye devices to your home entertainment system as well.
RedEye is expected to get more upgrades and become even more powerful in the future. So in a sense, it has more improvement potential than your everyday remote. The free app that you will have to download to take advantage of this system makes it so easy to flip the channels and control your systems (through touch w/ accelerometer support). The device is selling for $188 at this point. It’s not cheap by any means, but if you were going to spend that kind of money on a universal remote, picking up RedEye is a no brainer.
